About Our Mission
Providing families and students with the most transparent, data-driven school closure probability forecasts in the USA.
Our Team & Philosophy
Established in 2026, the US Snow Day Calculator was created by a small team of software engineers and winter safety advocates who were frustrated by clickbait forecast pages. We noticed many sites feed user queries into obscure, ad-heavy formulas that output unrealistic 100% probabilities just to gain clicks.
We believe in **absolute mathematical transparency**. Our closure predictions are based entirely on open, scientific datasets provided by the United States government and tuned to the physical capabilities of local municipalities.
Our Commitments
1. Direct Government Feeds
We pull data directly from NWS NOAA radar stations and forecast grids. We do not hide our numbers or use speculative third-party paid weather sources.
2. Regional Sensitivity
We adjust calculations based on local plow infrastructures. A dusting in Atlanta has a different closure implication than a dusting in Minneapolis.
3. Zero Specious Assertions
Our system displays probabilities (e.g. 60% chance) and confidence ratings, giving you the raw numbers to make informed parenting or travel choices.
4. Completely Free Access
We do not charge subscriptions, gate forecasts, or require user email lists to unlock ZIP code predictions.
